Asthma and Obesity. Are they linked?

According to an article I read tonight on the WW Website:  "Obesity can also increase your asthma risk. A 2007 report in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine said that the disease is 92% more common in people who are obese. While the relationship between asthma and weight is not completely understood, more weight on your chest may make it harder for it to expand and create difficulty breathing. Obesity may also increase inflammation in the body. This, in turn, can aggravate the inflammation of the bronchial tubes associated with asthma."

About 2 years ago I began having a terrible cough.  At first it was diagnosed as bronchitis.  After about 6 months, I went to another doctor who diagnosed it as asthma.  I don't smoke and had never had breathing problems before, but when I lay down at night I have a terrible cough and wheezing is very common, especially in the mornings.  During the day I sometimes have episodes where I feel my breath being cut off.  It's actually very scary!   Occasionally, it's so severe, I fear that I may not catch my breath at all.  I now wonder if my weight brought this ailment on.  Wouldn't it be great if, as I lose weight, these breathing problems diminish or even go away entirely?  I'm going to pay close attention for changes and do all I can to alleviate the symptoms.  I'll keep ya posted!
